How do I find the complete message header for an email?

To get the Internet message header for an email, find your email client below and follow the steps provided:

Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2002/XP, 2003:
  1. Open the message in a separate window (double click)
  2. Under the View menu select Options
  3. Copy the text in the “Internet Headers” window.
Microsoft Outlook 2007
  1. Open Outlook 2007 and navigate to the necessary email.
  2. Click on the Dialog Box Launcher located on the Message tab in the Options group.
  3. The headers will appear in the “Internet Headers”.
Microsoft Outlook 2010, 2013
  1. Open Outlook 2010 and navigate to the necessary email
  2. Click on the “File” Tab
  3. Click “Properties”
  4. The bottom part of the window should show the “Internet Headers”
Microsoft Outlook Express for Macintosh
  1. Select the email.
  2. From the View menu, choose Source. A new window will appear containing the email with full headers.
Microsoft Outlook Express 4, 5 and 6
  1. Select the email.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click the Details tab.
Microsoft Exchange
  1. Double click the message to view it in a full window.
  2. Click File and select Properties.
  3. In the Properties window, you can view the message header in the Internet Headers field.
Hotmail
  1. Open your browser and navigate to Hotmail.com
  2. Navigate to and open the necessary email
  3. Click the down arrow next to “Reply” in the message’s header area near the sender and subject.
  4. Select “View Message Source” from the menu

  1. Open your browser and navigate to mail.yahoo.com
  2. Navigate to and open the necessary email.
  3. Click on More and select View Raw Message.

Juno
  1. In the Juno mail client, click “file” and then “Save Message as Text File”. (ctrl-T).
  2. Give the file a name that you will remember.
  3. Double-click on the resulting file and then cut-and-paste the contents.

  1. Sign in to your email account.
  2. Open the email you want to view headers for.
  3. Click the View Full Headers icon.

  4. Select “Show original”.
